The 420 was introduced at the Motor Show in October 1966 and the following year outsold all the other Jaguar models including Mk2s, S type and MkX (renamed 420G) during 1967.

Sharing many features from the S type, the design was a scaled down version of the MkX/420G. It was developed into the XJ6 in late 1968 which became Jaguar’s flagship through series 1, 2 and 3 until 1992.

Offering sporty performance and limo comfort, many reviews rate the 420 ahead of other Jaguar models of that era.

This particular car was continually improved and restored over 30 years by the previous Jaguar enthusiast owner. This included a high quality respray, engine and gearbox overhaul, replacement diff, all (6) new shock absorbers, brake calipers, servo & master cylinder, fuel pumps and tanks, starter motor, stainless exhaust and more.

Since 2015 further improvements have included: a recon head (skimmed, pressure tested, new valves, springs, guides). Carburettors rebuilt with new solenoid. New exhaust manifolds and stainless front pipes. Front seats retrimmed in leather; rear seat and door cards refurbished. Floor pan scrubbed and painted (no repairs needed). Front wheel bearings. Radiator header tank replaced, custom made in aluminium.

I have four classic cars and have decided that two is more practical so am reluctantly selling this Jaguar.

In excellent condition and wonderful to drive.
Won a cup in 2017, best in class at a show of over 200 cars.
